Good morning…from the farm.
An old friend of the family has written a murder mystery set in the Silver Lake area just north of Montrose. The plot has to do with money from gas leases on property with access to the Marcellus shale. My Mom told me about the book. She had seen a write-up in the local paper. I followed her information with a phone call to the author, now living in southern California.
If you like murder mysteries, and live in this area, you are going to enjoy this book. The topic is timely, and having the story set in this area adds some local color and interest.
The hero, a widower named Pete Woodard, has a summer cottage on Silver Lake. He is friends with the local police chief, and his wife. The chief thinks he has a problem, and he comes to Pete for advice. Pete has a very sharp intellect, which allows him to see potential solutions that I – for one – would not have guessed. He adds to the fun of the reader by providing a series of charts that show the various suspects and related information in an easy to follow format.
All in all a good solid entertaining read with likable characters, and a timely topic for backdrop.
